3 Tips to Balance Being a Mother and Daughter of God

I’m not going to tell you that it’s easy, but I am going to tell you that it’s possible. Having a child with special needs has been one of the most challenging assignments given to me. It took a little while to get to the place where I am now, and I have a lot more work to do, but finally, I have some sort of balance when it comes to being a daughter.

I was reading the Word one night, and the Lord highlighted Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.” I realized I lacked ALL of that. Not some, ALL. I had been asking God to give me wisdom on how to be more patient. I was struggling with my son and felt like I was at my breaking point, but I didn’t do the most important thing: telling the Father that I NEED HELP. It got to the point where I felt like I was begging and even raising my voice, demanding that He help me right away. As I sat there, the Holy Spirit revealed that I try to do things myself, and that’s where I fail every time. Even when I ask the Lord for help, I try to control the scenario because of that uncertainty, as if God doesn’t know what He’s doing. I think that’s a lot of our problems. We want to see exactly what God is doing and saying instead of trusting Him to be who He’s always been, and that is Jireh.

Through these experiences, I have learned some valuable lessons. I hope these 3 tips help those who feel like they can’t find that balance when things get overwhelming:

ASK THE LORD FOR HELP!

Matthew 7:7-8: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Some of us are scared to ask the Lord because we get discouraged when the results aren’t as fast as we expect. We think the Lord is supposed to say something like, “Bet, my child! Structure, Routine, and Discipline coming right up,” but we don’t understand that we have to do our part too. Faith without works is dead. But most importantly, FAITH. We have to believe in what we ask God for like it’s already happened. Habakkuk 2:2: "Then the Lord answered me and said, 'Write the vision and engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets so that the one who reads it will run.'"

Habakkuk 2:2: "Then the Lord answered me and said, 'Write the vision and engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets so that the one who reads it will run.'"

Get up an hour earlier, spend quiet time with the Father, and write a routine to stick with. Watch how the Lord will do the rest when He sees you trying.

Worship together!

Praise & worship with your children to your favorite playlist. My situation is a little different because my son is currently non-verbal and doesn’t really grasp the concept of worship; he looks at me like I’m crazy or playing, but guess what? Worship breaks chains! Psalm 100:1-5 says: “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Nothing like shifting the atmosphere.

Speaking of shifting the Atmosphere, this third one I was taught at a young age, Good ol’ Prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer to be exact. (Again, if you have a special needs child, you can still say this prayer with them in the morning and before bed; don’t sleep on what they understand and don’t.) Proverbs 26:6-9 says: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail." When you instill those morning prayers, you create a firm foundation that will last all the way into their adulthood.
